“THE ALASKA COLLECTION” - Bird Ridge
“Bird Ridge” by James Havens
circa 2001
circa 1991 Wasilla, Alaska
Oil on board 4ft X 6ft
Commissioned by Artic Rose Galleries
While hiking in Alaska’s thick forest, one often imagines, “What if...”. This painting was inspired by a hike between Bird Ridge and McHugh Creek of the Chugach National Park in South Central, Alaska, where many such encounters have actually taken place. This painting was James’ first limited edition print ever published. It was also an annual Summer Solstice print for Artic Rose Galleries in Anchorage Alaska, which was titled, Devil in the Devils club.
“This painting to me represents more of the imagined danger rather than the reality. Bears for the most part try to avoid humans. Although when you are there, alone in bear country, it’s hard to stop thinking about what lurks a few feet away obscured from view.”
